The United Nations Country Team in Zambia is
made up of 12 resident agencies, UNICEF, UNHCR, ILO, UNFPA, WFP, FAO,
WHO, UNECA, UNDP and includes the Bretton Woods Institutions and several
agencies such as UNESCO, UNIDO and UNHCHR that cover Zambia from other
countries but still are indeed an integral part of the Zambia UN Country
Team.
The UN Humanitarian Co-ordinator plays the main
intermediary between the donors, NGOs and the government, the most
significant co-ordination structure is UN Humanitarian Co-ordinator’s
office which provide a range of for a for the UN Country Team, government,
donors and NGOs to meet on matters of humanitarian work, all dimensions
of the crisis and humanitarian constraints and access. The HU also
provides an information management function.
This section presents the United Nations in Zambia
and provides an overview of their activities. It will include in-depth
feature stories, best practises, as well as, organisation profiles,
which will contain country contact information, office location and
contact numbers.
The United Nations aims to work together with
Government, non-governmental organizations and civil society to create
an enabling environment for the achievement of Zambia’s Millennium
commitments. |
