United nations

This section presents the United Nations in Swaziland and provides an overview of their activities. It will include in-depth feature stories, best practises, as well as, organisation profiles, which will contain country contact information, office location and contact numbers.

The United Nations aims to work together with government, non-governmental organisations and civil society to create an enabling environment for the achievement of Swaziland’s Millennium commitments.

Swaziland became a member state of the United Nations on 24 September 1968. The United Nations presence in Swaziland began with the arrival of UNDP in September of 1968. UNDP Swaziland houses the Resident Coordinator and the resident Coordinators office.

The United Nations Development Programme is a strong and respected partner of the government and people of Swaziland, and the multilateral and bilateral community active in the Kingdom.

UNDP's work:

1. Reposition Swaziland globally, following the major political changes in neighboring countries, South Africa and Mozambique - in the 1990s;
2. Act decisively and with maximum possible impact in the critical national emergency of HIV/AIDS prevention and response.
UNDP is the heart and home of the United Nations in Swaziland.
UNDP was joined later by UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, UNAIDS, WFP, FAO and UNESCO.
