Humanitarian Information Coordination Working Group (HICWG)

In support of Swaziland’s UNDP Resident Coordinator’s mission and objectives, a Humanitarian Information Coordinating Working Group (HICWG) has been established in Swaziland. This is a combination of members from non-governmental organisations, United Nations and government agencies; all combined under one umbrella to share and coordinate humanitarian information and promoting and advocating for humanitarian assistance.

The scope of the HICWG covers:
•   Setting up a structure for information flow;
Correlation and repackaging of information;
Reaching a consensus for conflicting information;
Capacity building for Information Officers by strengthening existing formal structures;
Harmonizing the methodologies of information gathering and dissemination;
Marketing and linking the website to Cabinet and globally; and
Facilitate a continuous evaluation of data content and effectiveness of Swazirelief and other dissemination channels;
Producing a regular Who does What Where report for Swaziland, that provides a fair account of development and humanitarian activities in the country, reveals hot spots of needs;
Liaising with all information management initiatives in the country and regionally to ensure that emergency, disaster response and development data requirements are effectively considered.

The membership group should provide basic information to work from (representatives might be invited to be present ad-hoc in working Group meetings depending on the matters at hand).
Members of the HICWG are organisations that provide Humanitarian assistance: Assistance that affects the parameters of people’s lives and condition, especially pertaining to emergency and crisis situations and areas.
Participant members for the working group were suggested to be:
•   CANGO
The Chairman of the Food Security Consortium
NERCHA
UNDP
NVAC
NDTF

Whereas the larger membership group should meet at less frequent intervals, the Working group should meet regularly at two-week intervals.
