SADC National VAC DevInfo Quality Assurance Workshop, Johannesburg, 30 Oct - 2 Nov 2006

SAHIMS hosted a Quality Assurance Workshop in from Johannesburg from 30 October to 2 November 2006, to VAC DevInfo country teams that have completed phase 1, 2 and 3 of the SADC National VAC DevInfo pilot project. The countries; Zambia, Lesotho and Malawi completed their national VAC DevInfo, that will serve as the data backbone of their future VA as well as a solid thematic contribution to the national adaptation of DevInfo, within the overall framework of the MDGs.

The SADC NVAC DevInfo is a thematic application of DevInfo technology to build national VAC data repositories, with the aim of supporting data analysis and reporting. UNICEF deployed DevInfo technical support from India to work with SAHIMS in supporting these countries, in the last round of testing, verification and validation of the first NVAC DevInfo databases according to the latest standards.

DevInfo 5.0 Regional Training Workshop, Johannesburg 28 Aug - 1 Sept 2006

SAHIMS hosted a training of national and agency administrators for DevInfo 5.0 in Johannesburg, South Africa
from 28 August to 1 September 2006. 43 Participants attended from 20 countries in Southern and Eastern Africa, including Ghana. Organised by the UN RDT, UNICEF and UNDGO; this rollout workshop for DevInfo 5, enabled countries to receive the latest DevInfo software and information, including an expanded range of tools and features for effective data management, dissemination and presentation of MDG and human development indicators. The training further encouraged participants to share experiences and best practices. Country participants included government, UN country teams, NGO's and civil society. This training was complementary to national training programme and is expected to advance the DevInfo national capacity.

Johannesburg UN RDT DevInfo User Training

SAHIMS has developed a DevInfo user training schedule for all Johannesburg and Pretoria-based UN staff involved in programming, advocacy and information management to familiarise UN staff with DevInfo software.

Please note: Target audience for this training, initially consisting of the UN Pretoria and Johannesburg offices, will be expanded to all development partners. (Please watch for national schedule). SAHIMS is further looking at supporting SADC in similar training efforts at national level, as well as planned training for SADC programme officers.  This training will primarily be based on the MDG 2005 database, but training content will expand as national DevInfo localisation becomes possible. The programme for training of users will ultimately serve as base for a wide participative distribution of DevInfo to its users across southern Africa. 

Advanced Regional Training Workshop for SADC Country DevInfo Database Managers, Johannesburg, South Africa, 15-19 May 2006

The main purpose of this workshop is to assist RVAC and NVAC in establishing national vulnerability data repositories, as part of the integrated MDG, poverty and vulnerability monitoring information management systems. The workshop will deploy DevInfo data management system and standards within national VAC, initially in three SADC countries: Lesotho, Zambia & Zimbabwe. It will be an exercise of capacity building and transfer, supported by the UN Regional Director Team and Resident Coordinators. Lessons learned will help fine tune similar deployment in other SADC countries. The training will also help complete DevInfo localisation in South Africa and Namibian Governments.

MDG Common Assistance Framework Workshop, Sunninghill, Johannesburg, 11-12 May 2006
This workshop aims at building a common understanding of inter-agency MDG responsibilities on policy and information management. The workshop will assist country teams to transform and align agency goals to incorporate MDGs. Country needs will be discussed and included into a MDG Common Assistance Framework MoU.
